This picture looked like me this morning, staring at my typewriter, in the corner of the living room, trying to focus on one idea, except it was too bright and blue and chirpy outside for me to waste it away in a staring contest (also, the ink needs to be refilled).
I don't have a lot of girlfriends and I might actually even prefer the company of guys, but today I felt like I wanted to share this day with people that I'm genuinely fond of. I was supposed to interview someone for los de abajo but I realized this weather was too much of a rarity to interfere with, or maybe I was just really in dire need of the weather I grew up with in So. Cal. Sunshine in San Francisco is a cause for celebration, which means lounging outdoors with a frosty beverage! Beer, vietnamese food, Dolores Park and Alamo Square were amazing, especially all in one day. Just being able to wear clothes that let your skin breathe was enough to slap a smile on my face, even if basking in the Sun all day resulted in a sunburn.
Back to work tomorrow, brainstorming a layout, interviewing a barista, searching for a typewriter mechanic, and getting this show on the road!

the birth of a zine...
evening everyone,
After cutting, and pasting a really crappy newsletter together, I finally just said "screw it" and decided a blog would be the most convenient and less wasteful route. In that really sad, homemade newsletter, I discussed what the content of the los de abajo magazine would be, with the help of some ideas added by others, as well as due dates, and ways to collect submissions. Here is what I had written:
If I've spoken to you, it's because I want your help with a zine I'm finally starting. The zine will be full of writing, reviews, art, interviews and whatever else you or I can think of! I don't want this to be an exclusive outlet, but something anyone can read and relate to, in some way or another.
I tried thinking of an appropriate deadline, and 3 days ago, May 1st sounded perfect but then I realized that date was extremely soon, I work two jobs and this is brand new to me, I need more time! Hopefully you can use the extra time to work on/polish anything you'd like to submit. Now, my next date in mind would be June 1st...how does that sound? much better, if you ask me! By then we may have a logo, a layout and plenty of contributors(please and thanks)!
contact me/the zine through here or the email, los.de.abajo.zine@gmail
*thinking about the first issue makes me so excited about the second! oh yeah, and if you have zine ideas or advice, please throw them my way :)
